I’m back today from a short vacation to the Andaman Islands. My favorite is Havelock Island – Port Blair is no longer a city I would consider spending time in. My favorite resort at Havelock is Barefoot and I’m thrilled I got to spend two nights there – it was my second time there in six years. There’s loads of other photos but the following five are some of my favorites.
Below: Radhanagar Beach [ beach number 6 on Havelock Island ] at night. Guests are not allowed on the beach, in the water post 1800hrs – it is pitch dark and there are literally no people there. But I’d had this idea in my head for over six years and I just had to make a photo or two. I balanced the camera on my slippers, set a slightly long exposure and while the shutter was open, I flashed my SB 600 a few times onto the trees. The camera shook as it slipped on the slippers though. I LOVE this photo!
Below: Further down Radhanagar beach is a section called the Aquarium. The water is relatively calmer here with smaller waves but in 2010 a lady was attacked by a salt-water alligator here so fewer people visit this spot. It’s like a secluded cove like the letter “C”.
Below: Sunset hidden behind the thick clouds. The tiny blue speck on the right is Sanjit who handles construction at Barefoot. He was on his evening walk.
Below: the lush trees that have been there for hundreds of years. On the patch of forest between Barefoot Resort and the Radhanagar beach. The ground is strewn with roots and it’s one hell of a bumpy ride if you’re on a two-wheeler – but so much fun! I can never get myself to take my eyes off these trees.
Below: The sound and light show at the Cellular Jail on Port Blair. The show was a very sad and pathetic affair so I killed time making photos of the stars and incoming flights.
