Go Pro has finally launched in India officially. Fans of the brand have existed since the brand launched internationally. I’ve seen them – they are easy to spot – one camera strapped to their head, one to their chest, one on each arm, one on each knee or leg and a few more attached to their motorcycles / drones / jeeps. I’ve always wanted a Go Pro camera since I first found out about them in 2004/06. But I’ve resisted the urge because I’m not a proponent of collecting equipment. Generally my full frame camera plus three zoom lenses have fulfilled almost every use case one can imagine for the kind of work that I do. But I guess one only finds out what use a piece of equipment can be when one’s spent considerable amount of time figuring it out. Which is what has happened to me after the Go India launch. The team handed all 17 of us “influencers” they’d flown down from all over India a Hero 4 Silver to keep and play around with. And I’m obsessed. It’s a 12 megapixel camera but the perspective it offers is fucking fabulous! All photos on this blog feature have been shot on the Hero 4 Silver – edited in Adobe Lightroom. Definitely quite a few use cases for this piece of equipment. Especially because it is such a small device. There’s a couple of permanent adhesive grips the team gave us with the device but I’ve been using a huge blob of White Tack to stick the camera in odd places ( not moving vehicles ) to get shots I think might be interesting – especially for time lapses.
I feel awesome that the Go Pro team invited me to be part of the “Go Pro Family” in India. And I was quite pleased to see that out of the 17 of us, 6 are girls. I’m wiritng this sitting at a golf course in Ranikhet and want to tag everyone who was there – but let’s see if the phone internet network agrees – will list names at the end of this post.
The itinerary of the launch included a day trip to Della Adventures at Lonavala where I enjoyed the zip-lining a bit much – made a video too – will post eventually when I get around to learning how to edit videos better. Day two was for a walk around Gateway of India and lunch at Stir and Fry. We were staying at the St. Regis hotel and enjoyed the hotel’s hospitality.
