The groom : Praval, arrives at the venue for the wedding ceremonies.
The baraat moves from the gate to the porch of the venue with the groom seated in a chariot pulled by two horses.
The groom is welcomed and I get a few minutes to sneak in a few portraits. Grooms really are a neglected lot when it comes to portraits during wedding photography!
The bride, Meera, arrives under a woven mesh of flowers and waves to friends and guests who are looking forward to the varmala / jaimala.
The groom welcomes the bride onto the stage.
The varmala / jaimala takes place and the couple are seated to start the process of getting photographs taken with the guests. I usually take a break at this point and grab dinner [ the dinner at this particular wedding was fab – I ran out of tummy-space before I could sample everything! ]
Once the photographs with the guests are done, the couple proceed to the dinner table and I manage to sneak in a few images of the couple as they walk through the grass.
The couple settles down at the mandap for proceedings to begin. Formal wedding ceremonies involve long hours of scriptures and mantras to be read by the purohit / pandit who conducts the wedding.
I always LOVE capturing images of the couple sneaking in conversation during the formal ceremony.
The groom protectively shields the bride’s shawl from the fire as she extends her hand to contribute saamagri / aahooti to the havan-kund.
Finally it is time for the pheras and the bride’s brother participates in the ceremony as well.
The ritual where the groom puts vermilion / sindoor in the middle hair parting of the bride. In this case, this ritual is supposed to be shielded from the fire in the havan-kund, hence the shawl.
I absolutely LOVE how Meera is looking at Praval in the above image.
The bride shows off the gorgeous saffron of her sindoor.
Time for the bride to leave, aka the bidaai / vidaai ceremony.
And they are off! Many congratulations to the couple and hope to see more of you soon!
