Colour takes shape and the essence of the Australian landscape is transformed into unique, wearable art. The “Formae Coloris Australia” Series – Latin for ‘Shapes/Creations of Colour, from Australia’ – invites you to discover meticulously handcrafted pieces, each an independent work of art, born from a passion for expressive form and evocative hues.

Crafted in my studio here in Adelaide, South Australia, each brooch in this series is a testament to an innovative “folded paint” technique. Luscious synthetic polymer paint is carefully manipulated and sculpted, captured in organic, flowing forms. These are then mounted on round wooden bases and sealed with a matte varnish that enhances their rich, tactile quality and the nuanced depth of their colours, as well as protects the piece from daily wear-and-tear. Inspired by the diverse Australian palette – from the subtle greens of eucalyptus leaves and the deep tones of ancient minerals, to the fiery brilliance of outback sunsets and the soft pastels of coastal flora – each piece is an abstracted miniature landscape, a unique “chromascape” to be worn and cherished.

More than just adornment, these brooches are designed to spark delight, offer a touch of distinctive elegance, and become engaging conversation starters. Each piece is signed and dated on the reverse, affirming its unique character, and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity – your assurance of an original artwork. A secure magnetic clasp ensures your favourite garments remain pristine while you showcase a piece of authentic Australian artistry.

As an ongoing series, new interpretations of the Australian palette will continue to emerge from the studio. I invite you to explore the current “Formae Coloris Australia” collection, find a piece that speaks to you – a unique creation of colour and form to treasure or gift – and perhaps revisit to discover future expressions from this evolving body of work.

The idea for my art brooches originated in 2019, born from my desire to be able to ‘wear a painting’ and the realization that nothing quite fulfilled this vision. This series marks the beginning of my Made In Australia journey!
