ANTHESIS

ANTHESIS is a collection of thirteen unique wearable sculptures inspired by the extraordinary flowering gums of Australia.

Flowering gums are unlike most blossoms. Their apparent petals give way to hundreds of delicate stamens tipped with pollen, forming intricate structures that seem almost architectural. They exist in abundance for only a short time before returning to the landscape.

Rather than depicting botanical specimens, Anthesis explores the energy, complexity and joy of flowering. Each work is an abstract interpretation of that fleeting moment when colour, light and structure converge.

Every sculpture is individually hand-built in acrylic polymer on a wooden substrate and fitted with a concealed magnetic clasp that protects the garment on which it is worn. No moulds, casts or digital fabrication are used. Each filament is built dot by dot.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I have spent more than two decades observing the world through a camera. Photography taught me to slow down and notice the details that are easily overlooked.

That same way of seeing continues through my wearable sculptures.

I am drawn to the quiet complexity of natural forms, particularly Australia’s flowering gums, whose intricate stamens create extraordinary bursts of colour, rhythm and texture. Rather than reproducing what I see, I use those observations as a starting point for abstraction.

My work invites the viewer to look more closely, to discover beauty in structure, repetition and the smallest of details.
