Amazon India Couture Week 2015 is on these days and one of the shows that I was delighted to be invited to ( Thank you VTY and Monisha Jaising for the spectacular invitation and the monogrammed sweatshirt as well as the lovely front row seats. ) I was so shocked to meet Monisha prior to the show because apart from the shoes and the hair, both of her were wearing the exact same thing. Her shirt was monogrammed with an M of course. Luckily I snapped up a selfie with Monisha after the show! Yay!
The Sailing Bride covered a wide spectrum of glamorous Indian and Western cuts and treatments to the garments. There were beautifully embroidered lehengas and stunning svelte evening gowns and gowns with skirts billowing on the nautical runway that has been built. Shiny crystals and fur linings, sheer dupattas and punbing-neckline jackets. Embellished trousers and beautifully cut blouses with the lehengas. There were a few sarees too. Sports luxe combined with super glamorous evening-wear, Monisha’s collection had something for every girl. The jersey lehenga they Bollywood’s Kriti Sanon closed with was a lovely touch. I can’t imagine how arduous it must have been to embroider that whole ensemble!
There was a lovely sea blue lehenga and another long jacket that has beautiful mirror work on them. I see this seems to be coming up even in international collections. Craftsmanship opportunities seem to be coming back to the fore once again.
It was lovely to see some of my favourite Indian models on the runway for Monisha. Carol Gracias, Rikee Chatterjee, Sonalika Sahay and the one in the first photo in the blog story – I don’t know her name yet but goodness she’s HOT! Pernia Qureshi also walked the runway and was delightful!
