It is always a pleasure working professionally with brands that have been a special part of my life and Jack Daniel’s is one such brand. So when they got in touch with Naina.co to participate in and share stories about my personal relationship with JD No. 7, I was thrilled. The proposition instantly took me back to my years in Bombay that I spent painting the town red with my friends. Specific name and locations sprung up in my head and I couldn’t resist going back to photo albums on Facebook and polaroid prints I have stashed away from those years.
Nostalgia overlays everything with a gold-tinted patina for me and the taste of this golden liquid still transports me back to those evenings spent sitting by the Arabian Sea. My bare feet sunk into grass, lounging on a garden chair, endless conversations late into the night. Hanging out with a handful of people who would see me whenever I hinted at “evening plans”, pretty much no matter how busy they were.
My brother-in-law still continues to entice me with offers of “JD + Cola” when I get too busy to hang out at their place. He knows it holds a special place in my life. I try to take him up on his offer as much as I can. Just having an evening of nothing but long-winded conversation with no agenda and a couple of glasses of JD creates an oasis of de-stress in the middle of an otherwise super busy and chaotic life.
The neural pathways in my brain are triggered just by the sniff of a glass of Jack Daniel’s now. I can sniff it, close my eyes and feel like I’m right back to the spot where my toes dug into grass and the sea-breeze kissed my face. A spot of calm in the stormy sea of life. I enjoy these moments immensely.
Here’s wishing Jack Daniel’s at least another 150 years of creating these moments for people like me. Happy 150th Anniversary to the Jack Daniel Distillery at Lynchburg, Tennessee! Cheers! ( How wonderful would it be to visit the distillery and photograph and share a photo story of the place – I imagine I’ll spend way too much time sniffing the air! )
