I was first introduced to Nitin Kartikeya’s work in October 2015, when I attended and photographed his runway show as part of Amazon India Fashion Week, Spring Summer 2016. At first glance it looked like “regular” Indian bling but the more I saw, the more I could sense there was something else going on here. There was nothing “regular” about Nitin’s work – I photographed the show and blogged the photographs, as I used to do with most of my favourites each fashion week.
And I forgot about it. Work done and dusted an moving on to other work. But within a few days of my publishing that piece on the blog, Nitin got in touch with me on Instagram and introduced himself. Since then, he has been telling me to drop by at his store at Hauz Khas Village in Delhi. And I’ve been meaning to, but it just didn’t work out, until now!
Bharat and I took a short day trip to the Kartikeya India store and also to the IX by Kartikeya store, both at Hauz Khas Village. The IX by Kartikeya store also has a beautiful location – apart from beautiful contents. Nitin is coming up with pieces of his gorgeous work at what seem to be throwaway prices to me. 6-8k for a jacket?! Sounds insane! And the garments are modern and “hip” – although he’ll probably hate me for using those labels.
Nitin has been in the Indian fashion industry for some time now and he continues to retain his fire-in-the-belly. He feels strongly about how things are run in the industry and how they can be made better – and true to his name, he’s on the warpath to victory!
