*This post is a continual work-in-progress. I add stores as I find them. Might have some that look unfinished etc. Feel free to leave a comment if your store is not mentioned and I will add it at my own discretion, no charge.
South Adelaide to North Adelaide, otherwise in no particular order. I’ve personally been to most of them, but not all of them. And just because store are listed here, does not mean that these are recommendations. It’s a list. The links will take you to their Google Maps listing.
JK Farmer’s Market, Hackham
They sell fruits and vegetables only. Some milk and eggs. They buy wholesale and you need to pick your fruits and veggies carefully because if you’re expecting supermarket quality, you will be very disappointed. But JK’s prices are the cheapest in Adelaide I daresay. Definitely the cheapest in the southern suburbs. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 5 pm. They announce their specials on their Instagram and Facebook as well. This is our go-to place for fresh veggies and fruits.
Atta, Chawal, Sabzi, Morphettvale
I’m not sure if they have fresh vegetables or fruits but they do have onions. I’ve been there but it’s been a while. It’s a tiny little shop with not a lot of variety and Southern Suburb pricing. If you’re ever in a pinch. Open from 10 am to 8 pm everyday.
Hamro Bazzar, Morphettvale
I haven’t been to this one yet – it’s a Nepalese / Indian Grocery store and they also have some fresh veg and fruits. 9am to 9pm all week.
EkOmkar Supermarket, O’Halloran Hill
Groceries and fresh vegetables and fruits. Currently they have the largest variety of stuff in the Southern Suburbs. They are slightly higher priced than the Indian stores in the Northern Suburbs. Most times, the quality of their fruits and vegetables is excellent. Open all week, 9 am to 9 pm. They are on Instagram.
Adelaide Delights, St Marys
Have not been here personally but they have great reviews, especially for South Indian stuff. Their page says that they are open 24 hours and they also do deliveries. On Instagram.
Bright Indian Grocery, Payneham
Not been here personally. 9am to 9pm all week. Groceries and fresh.
Quality Fruit Veg & Indian Groceries, Newton
I have not been here personally. They have groceries and fresh stuff. 9:30am to 7:30pm all days of the week.
Golden Star Spices, Clovelly Park
Have not been here yet. 9am to 8pm all week. Groceries and fresh fruit and veg.
India Junction Supermarket, Edwardstown
I’ve been here a couple of times and they have a lot of variety. Groceries, fresh fruit and veg and fresh meat. 10am to 8 pm all week.
Ethnic Indian Grocer / Big India Bazaar, Ascot Park
They have groceries and fresh stuff. I have not yet visited. 10am to 8pm all week. They don’t seem to have too many nice reviews though.
Royal Indian Groceries & Jai Shiv Fruit & Veg, South Plympton
We go here a lot, mainly because they have fresh dhokla / khaman over the weekend. They stock a wide range of groceries and they have a whole fresh fruit and veg section called Jai Shiv, separately, adjacent to them. Manik and his brother run the place and we enjoy their banter and customer service immensely. 10am to 8pm weekdays and open at 9am on weekends.
Indian Plaza, Glynburn
Not been here, personally. Seem to sell only groceries. 9am to 7pm weekends and 10am to 6:30pm weekdays.
Indian Traders, Plympton
Not been here yet. It’s on Anzac Highway. Groceries and fresh fruit and veg. 10am to 7pm all week.
Namaste India Grocery Store, Plympton
Been here a couple of times. Small compared to Royal or Ek Omkar. They don’t stock fresh fruit and veg as far as I know. 10am to 8:30pm on weekdays and close at 7:30pm on weekends.
Indian Supermart, Torrensville
Haven’t been here personally. Groceries and fresh fruits & vegetables. 10am to 8pm weekdays and 9am to 8pm weekends.
Indian Spice Plaza, Torrensville
Have not been here personally, yet. 10am to 7:30 pm all week. Groceries and fresh fruits and vegetables.
Indian Spice Bazaar, Woodville Gardens
Not been here yet. 12pm to 2pm on Mondays, 10:30am to 6pm all other days. From their photos on Google Maps, looks like they sell only groceries and not fresh stuff.
Wander Bros Indian Supermarket, Klemzig
I have been wanting to go here since they opened (re-opened?), but have not had a chance yet. Open from 8am to 10pm all days of the week. They claim to be Adelaide’s biggest Indian store – I don’t know how that is worked out though. On Instagram. They also have a store at Holden Hill.
Super Indian Grocery, Churchill Center, Kilburn
I have shopped here when I used to live in Kilburn because it was 400 meters walking distance. It’s a tiny shop and they keep most of the stuff you’ll ever need. Groceries and fresh. Prices are a bit higher for North Adelaide Indian stores.
Indian Plaza, Enfield
This one is probably, collectively, known as the best place to shop for Indian groceries, in all of Adelaide. Prices are probably the lowest here (Ekam, which is right next to them and also across the street from them, also has somewhat similar pricing). I usually just go to India Plaza or Ekam when I’m buying bulk rice / dal / etc. Kisaan dairy products are restocked every Thursday.
Ekam, Enfield Plaza, Blair Athol
We shop here regularly for fresh fruit and veg as well as groceries and utensils and what have you. Two stores – one across the street from this one. Pretty much all you’ll ever need. Open all week, 9am to 10pm. On Instagram.
Patel Brothers, Gepps Cross
We go here regularly to buy Katoomba Milk, which, currently, doesn’t seem to be available anywhere else in Adelaide. They also announce specials on their WhatsApp group if you’re looking for deals etc. Huge store with groceries and fresh fruits and vegetables, although, personally, I feel that the prices of fresh items are a bit pricier than other North Adelaide Indian stores.
