“Those Days In Delhi” by @yashodharalal
When @harpercollinsin sent this book to me, I wasn’t sure I’d like it. I had no context about the book whatsoever.
Of course, I’m never going to pass up the opportunity to read a book. I’ll definitely start reading it and if I like it, I’ll finish it and I might even tell you what I thought about it.
I finished reading this one yesterday, thank you viral fever. And I enjoyed reading it! ?♥️ A lot. Major dose of nostalgia.
If you’re a 90’s kid, like me (I was born in 1980), and if you went to school in Delhi (like I did, for a brief period of time), this book feels like you’re reading partly about yourself. Partly about home.
I wasn’t half as smart or self-aware as the Y-Lal who is in 7th standard at a school that has an airplane at the entrance gate. I too tried playing basketball like her but I wasn’t half as good as she is.
There’s a certain warmth in the writing. Of school and hiding under the bed, a younger sister, a smart Mom, and a time capsule that I can revisit. It was refreshing.
The book was an easy read and I dog-eared two pages because there’s always some lessons to be taken away.
