“Opium Dream” by Sabyasachi at the PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2013. The runway set-design was reminiscent of an era gone past. Glass lamps, mirrors and even an old wood statue of Jesus Christ. Lots of real potted plants added a fresh green atmosphere to the runway, bringing some of the Delhi Monsoon effect indoors. There was lots of bling in the form of sequins and the collection is supposed to be inspired from the era of the 1920’s.
Someone remarked, “All of it looks the same. Where’s the inventive spirit? Isn’t this supposed to be Couture?” Most of the PCJ Delhi Couture Week, had almost no couture with the exception of maybe what Ritu Beri did [ which in my opinion couldn’t redeem the collection anyhow. More on that later. ] But Sabyasachi is known for “prettiness” and there was oodles of that. The jewellery was also done well as it went along well with the ensembles.
I’m not sure why it’s called the “Opium Dream”. Apologies.
I did, personally, like the way the models’ hair and make up had been done. Delicate, beautiful, adding a very old-world charm to the set and the clothes. The models looked radiant.
