When it’s at the corner of the street where your apartment’s at, it would be sacrilege to miss this. We’d been seeing long queues over the Labour Day weekend and didn’t want to join those but early Tuesday morning wasn’t a bad idea. It wasn’t crowded but if I didn’t tell you what day / time it was, you wouldn’t have been able to guess. It was busy. We knew we wanted the Pastrami and after a taste of the meat, it was served to us within seconds. Sour pickle. Rye Bread. So SO fabulous. Simple. There’s fabulous mustard on each table if you want more – I know I always do. You get ticket stubs handed to you as you enter – lose one and that’s $50. Not sure what the system is but it clearly works. Harry Met Sally filmed a scene here and many Hollywood A-Listers have eaten here – there’s walls covered with photographs. Definitely taking the boy here when I’m back to NYC with him because I will be back. Tip for first timers : they only accept cash, no credit cards.
