Warm & “jasmine-y”. That’s the first impression I get off of my skin, soon after spraying this fragrance on my wrist and long after as well. The starting note seems to be way more complex than the mid and end notes. It is a light and happy scent and can work in both Winters and Summers. Warmth in the winter months, much needed, hence, this is January’s fragrance of the month!
My Burberry‘s latest edition is inspired by the cult trench coat of the Burberry brand and a London garden after rain. To my nose, it’s definitely a floral fragrance. But if I had to conjure up “rain”, I’d conjure up a more warm, tropical rain instead of cold London rain. The word I keep coming back to, for this fragrance, is “warm”. A bouquet of flowers on a pleasant, slightly warm, summer afternoon, with dew on the petals after a light drizzle. Maybe the Burberry trench thrown over your arm in anticipation of the cool evening. A whiff of this fragrance on your wrists and your neck, to keep you warm.
My nose also picks up a peculiar earthiness from this fragrance. No musk but somewhat leaning toward freshly turned damp soil. I’ve been using the fragrance for the last fifteen days and it has become my go-to fragrance to wear for the day. This has a very slight citrusy hint to it as well. Longevity on the My Burberry fragrance is low to moderate on my skin, which is why it’s ideal for the first half of the day but be prepared to spray more at noon if you want to carry it thorough till the evening. I’d layer it with a sparkly fragrance like Jour d’Hermès Absolu Parfum. The latter has massive longevity and would have a hint of warm earthiness to it because of the My Burberry hint.
Sillage ( the fragrance’s ability to create a scent-field around the wearer ) is also low to moderate. A more personal and intimate scent, which works because of the warmth and cosy-ness.
The design of the bottle is notable. While it seems like a simple design, the bottle cap is designed to remind of the buttons on a Burberry Trench, the ribbon stuck at the front of the bottle near its neck is Made In England and is used extensively across Burberry’s packaging and the metal neck of the bottle has the embossed imprint of the pattern on a Burberry scarf. If you purchase this from a Burberry store ( there’s one at DLF Emporio at Vasant Kunj in New Delhi ), they will also monogram the bottle with your initials as a complimentary service. Mine has “NR” on the front and it’s cute. This is a distinctly feminine fragrance.
My Burberry is supposed to have notes of sweet peas and citrusy notes of bergamot leading to geranium, freesia flowers and golden quince in the heart. The fragrance is rounded up with patchouli in the base, joined with Damascus and Centifolia rose. Francis Kurkdjian ( you can find him on Twitter here @FKurkdjian ) is the perfumer for the composition of the My Burberry fragrance. This is the first fragrance of his that I have explored and enjoyed and after having kept up with him on Twitter, I’m keen to get my nose on some of his independent creations.
The Fragrance Of The Month Story is published on the second Friday of each month. Write to me on [email protected] if you or a brand you handle has a new fragrance coming out and you’d like it featured on Naina.co. I consider perfumes, eau de toilettes, candles, solid scents and any other unique product that utilizes scent in any form. The My Burberry fragrance was sent by Burberry India.
